In the thrilling third installment of the SCX10 base camp build series by AMain Hobbies, the team faced a crucial decision: how to further enhance their off-road beast. Contemplating options like a brushless motor or a beefier steering servo, they ultimately settled on a more practical approach—upgrading to heavier beadlock wheels and distinct tires to lower the center of gravity. In a battle of the wallets, the team compared the extravagant Vanquish wheels with brass enhancements to the more budget-friendly Trio wheels, opting for the latter's vintage charm and impressive weight of 127g each.
With a keen eye for detail, the team meticulously added extended hubs from Triel and sticky weights from ProTek to maximize the weight distribution on the wheels. By expertly trimming foam inserts to accommodate the added weight, they prepared the Upgrade RC Rock Claws tires in a super soft compound for mounting on the Trio wheels. Despite some initial concerns about rubbing due to the larger tires, the team forged ahead, eager to test the enhanced stability and grip on challenging terrains.
As the upgraded wheels and tires were meticulously mounted, the team marveled at the striking bronze color and the simplicity of the installation process. The weight disparity between the Vanquish wheels and the Trio wheels was a testament to the team's savvy cost-effective approach. The increased weight per corner of the truck promised improved stability and flexibility, transforming the off-road experience into a grounded and exhilarating adventure. Despite minor rubbing issues, the team's strategic upgrades proved to be a game-changer, providing a stable and stylish solution for conquering rough terrains with ease.
